We get it. No one wants to think about worst-case scenarios. But if you entered on the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), being informed can protect you and your loved ones.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Don’t open the door unless they show a warrant signed by a judge with your name.
  • You have the right to remain silent.
  • Never lie or show false documents.
  • Don’t sign anything before consulting a lawyer.
  • If detained, identify yourself and let them know about any close U.S. relatives.

Information is power, and preparation can protect you and your loved ones.

Remember: VWP overstays are not eligible for bond or a hearing before an immigration judge, but you still have rights. Understanding them is the first step to protecting yourself.
