Happy
New Year! I want to extend a belated but nevertheless genuine and
heartfelt public note of congratulations and thanks to Sheila
Gleeson
our Executive Director, who has recently stepped down. Sheila has
worked very hard over the past five years to enhance our small
coalition and has added value to many aspects of our approach to our
work. She can be particularly proud of the conferences she managed, in
which she brought us together to work as allies, setting our
differences aside. She cultivated our initial growth, and helped
us
build ourselves a fledgling brand.
Sheila
raised awareness with the Irish government, our primary funder of some
of the brutal underlying difficulties our undocumented Irish continue
to face in deportation proceedings, and developed tools for staff in
all of our immigration centers to deal more expediently with these
tough cases. Her professionalism, passion, genuine empathy, and
deep
understanding of the goals we all work daily to attain at our centers
was refreshing and will be hard to replicate.
On
that note, the CIIC Board has agreed that we need to seek a
replacement, and welcomes applications from interested parties for this
primarily part-time position. As in the past, working from home might
an option with this position. Interested candidates should submit
a
cover letter and resume to info@ciic.org.
A personnel committee comprised of myself, Celine Kennelly and Brendan
MaGee will review applications and make hiring recommendations to the
CIIC Board.
Wishing you all a
Happy, Healthy & Successful New Year
