June 28, 2018— The Coalition of Irish Immigration Centers (CIIC) supports all immigrants who seek safety, opportunity and the hope of a better life in the United States. Therefore we strongly disagree with the separation of families at the border, the SCOTUS decision to uphold the Muslim Ban and increased inhumane tactics of ICE and other agencies of the U.S. immigration system.

Further, the current exclusionary immigration policies being implemented in the U.S. directly contradict true American values rooted in diversity, acceptance and welcoming; the same principles that embraced our ancestors who migrated to America to escape famine, persecution and financial crisis in Ireland.

As Americans, descendants of immigrants and in some cases immigrants ourselves, we must speak out when something is wrong, and work tirelessly to make it better. CIIC believes in a welcoming society where all members are respected and valued, where the American ideals of difference and cultural diversity are prioritized and humanity is placed above all else.

CIIC will continue to stand with all immigrants in solidarity, and continue to support, defend and advocate for permanent solutions that promote true American ideals for all people.

 

ABOUT THE COALITION OF IRISH IMMIGRATION CENTERS
The Coalition of Irish Immigration Centers (CIIC) was established in 1996 to promote the welfare of Irish immigrants in the US at a national level. The CIIC is funded by a generous grant from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Emigrant Support Programme, as well as a project grant from The Ireland Funds.

The Coalition serves as a national umbrella organization representing Irish immigration and community centers throughout the United States that are committed to providing support to Irish immigrants. The Coalition strives to be a strong, cohesive and representative voice for the needs of its member centers, and in turn the greater community of Irish immigrants in the US. The Coalition prioritizes the sharing of information and the creation of best practices as a way to support and assist its member centers in their direct service work.
