Member Center Spotlight: Irish Outreach Center
The Coalition of Irish Immigration Centers is proud to highlight The Irish Outreach Center, a vibrant community hub serving Irish immigrants and their families across Southern California. Since 1999, this San Diego–based nonprofit has provided practical support, cultural connection, and a true home away from home for those seeking community and care. The Center is capable of offering additional services as it hosts the Honorary Irish Consul to San Diego, Patrick O’Toole, at their office location in San Diego.

A Strong Foundation
Established to serve the needs of newly arrived Irish immigrants and longtime residents alike, the Center has become the heart of the Irish community in Southern California. For our Irish American community and those with an affinity to Ireland they are an authentic connection to Ireland and its culture. With recognition from the Irish Consulates in Los Angeles and San Francisco, the organization is uniquely positioned to support the Irish diaspora across the region.
Community Spirit
While day-to-day work often occurs quietly, helping immigrants navigate challenges, supporting seniors, or serving as the first point of contact in times of crisis, the Center also hosts beloved community gatherings. Popular programs include the Irish You a Merry Christmas charitable event and quarterly senior luncheons, both of which foster joy and togetherness.
Programs and Sevices
The Center’s impact extends well beyond cultural events. Services include:
- Irish passport and Foreign Birth Registration assistance
- Irish & US immigration information and referrals
- Robust support for the J-1 Summer Work and Travel students each year
- Referrals for employment and legal resources
- A local go-to resource for “all things Irish” in the region
- Facilitates a connection between Irish businesses, organizations, and the local community.
Each summer, staff and volunteers assist dozens of students with replacing lost or stolen passports, easing stress during what should be a life-changing adventure. In one recent case, a J-1 student lost her wallet at Mission Beach. Thanks to community connections and the dedication of staff and board members at the Center, her belongings were safely returned at no cost, an example of the kindness and responsiveness that are at the heart of this organization.
A Home in Southern California
The Irish Outreach Center thrives on the generosity of the community. Services are offered free of charge, with the support of the Emmigrant Support Program and donations, making it possible to keep doors open and programs running. Volunteers also play a vital role, especially during major events and seasonal initiatives.
