Member Center Spotlight: Emerald Isle Immigration Center
The Coalition of Irish Immigration Centers (CIIC) is proud to highlight the Emerald Isle Immigration Center (EIIC), a founding member of the Coalition and a trusted nonprofit serving immigrant communities since 1988. With offices in the Bronx and Queens, EIIC is widely recognized for its commitment to helping newcomers navigate life in the United States while maintaining a connection to their roots.
A Strong Foundation
For over 35 years, the Center has worked to protect the rights and interests of immigrants, promote civic participation, and guide thousands on their path to U.S. citizenship. Support from the Government of Ireland’s Emigrant Support Program and close collaboration with the Consulate General of Ireland in New York have helped sustain and grow this mission. The Center has also received significant support from NYC Council and NY State. Until recently (March 2025) the center was also funded by a USCIS Department of Homeland Security grant.
Services that Make a Difference
Clients receive confidential assistance across a wide range of needs, from legal guidance to social and employment support. Offerings include:
- Immigration Counseling & Citizenship Assistance – one-on-one help with green cards, re-entry permits, visas, citizenship programs, naturalization applications.
- Social & Education Services – benefits and entitlements case management specific to immigrants and older adults; social, outreach, and advocacy events; healthcare enrollment assistance; free tax preparation; psychotherapy and supportive counselling and referrals, and arts and cultural programs
- Legal Consultations – access to an on-staff attorney and case coordination through the legal services team.
- Education & Employment – job referrals, career advice, and college preparation workshops developed in collaboration with local educators and volunteers.
- Graduate Gateway Program – support for recent Irish graduates starting their careers in the U.S.
The work extends beyond paperwork.
Seniors find connection through activities and dedicated counseling, while individuals struggling with mental health or addiction can access drop-in counseling sessions with licensed professionals.
Building Community and Looking Ahead
Each year, EIIC helps hundreds secure citizenship, a milestone that strengthens families and deepens community ties. The Bruce Morrison Legacy event in early October celebrated the impact of policies that have shaped the Irish-American experience and underscore the importance of advocacy today.
A Lasting Impact
With a dedicated team of 16 full-time staff and the support of up to 100 volunteers, EIIC remains one of the most comprehensive immigrant resource centers in New York. Many clients and supporters refer to them as a one-stop shop.
EIIC also has strong relationships with other diaspora community organizations, including the Irish Business Organization of New York, a valued Graduate Gateway partner program.
From guiding a student through the Graduate Gateway program to assisting an elder with healthcare enrollment, every service is delivered with care, professionalism, and a commitment to dignity.

For many Irish immigrants, the decision to become a U.S. citizen is deeply personal. It can feel like a big step, one that blends opportunity with change, and roots with growth. At Irish in Motion, we know this choice isn’t just about paperwork. It’s about peace of mind, connection to loved ones, and the freedom to live life on your own terms.
Center Highlight: Irish Outreach Center
The Coalition of Irish Immigration Centers is proud to highlight The Irish Outreach Center, a vibrant community hub serving Irish immigrants and their families across Southern California. Since 1999, this San Diego–based nonprofit has provided practical support, cultural connection, and a true home away from home for those seeking community and care. The Center is capable of offering additional services as it hosts the Honorary Irish Consul to San Diego, Patrick O’Toole, at their office location in San Diego.
What Employers Need to Know About Immigration Enforcement at the Workplace
No one expects ICE to show up at their door. But if they do, knowing what to say, what to do, and what your rights are as an employer can make all the difference for your employees, your business, and your community.
The Coalition is generously funded through the Government of Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade Emigrant Support Programme
