IRISH SENIOR CONNECT MAKES 1,000TH PHONE CALL
May 1st 2014, Dorchester, MA — The Coalition of Irish Immigration Centers (CIIC) is pleased to announce that volunteers and staff of the CIIC’s senior outreach program, Irish Senior Connect (ISC), recently made their 1,000th well-being check-in call.
The mission of the ISC listening line is to provide Irish and Irish American seniors with a listening ear and a response that conveys empathy and respect, alleviating feelings of isolation and loneliness through telephone contact, and where appropriate, community referrals.
To compliment the listening line, ISC initiated a well-being check-in call service in February 2013 which offers a weekly or daily telephone call to check on the health and safety of seniors upon request. Response to these well-being check-in calls has been overwhelmingly positive and has surpassed initial benchmarks.
Breandan Magee, Vice President of the CIIC and ISC Subcommittee Co-Chair commented on the news saying, “Irish Senior Connect is to be congratulated on reaching a milestone this month, with its 1000th well-being check-in call. The listening line and well-being check in service provides solace to those in need, comfort to those who ache, and community to those who are lonely. In Ireland, we pride ourselves on looking after our own and ISC follows in that proud tradition from this side of the pond.”
Siobhan Dennehy, ISC Subcommittee Co-Chair added her congratulations expressing, “One of the grassroots challenges we face as an Irish community in America is the issue of aging. We are proud that Irish Senior Connect has made its 1,000th wellness call. We are especially grateful to the funders of this program who share our program goals and who are helping us bridge the gap for seniors who may be isolated and alone.”
The listening line operates on 1- 855-249-5146 at the following times and welcomes new callers:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 10am to 12pm EST
Wednesday, Friday and Saturday: 2pm to 4pm EST
