The push for immigration reform began in earnest today when Congressman Luis V. Gutierrez (D-IL) introduced new legislation, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America’s Security and Prosperity Act of 2009 (CIR ASAP), to the U.S. House of Representatives.
A significant number of Members of Congress have signed on to the bill as original co-sponsors and the bill was welcomed by individuals and organizations across the country. It is important to remember that the opposition will be mobilizing also and it will take a major collective effort in the New Year to pass positive immigration legislation.
