March 3, 2015–The Coalition of Irish Immigration Centers (CIIC) and its membership across the United States are extremely thankful for all the support and encouragement received from Minister Jimmy Deenihan during his term as Minister for Diaspora Affairs. The choice of Minister Deenihan was a natural one, particularly from a US standpoint, given the many years of support and access he has given to the Irish Diaspora in the US both as a sportsman and a politician. As a champion of the inaugural Global Civic Forum, Minister Deenihan highlighted the critical importance of Diaspora organizations, the substantive work accomplished by these groups and the significance of the people they serve. Minister Deenihan was, and continues to be, authentic in his support of Irish citizens throughout the United States and the world, consistently demonstrating a great personal interest and genuine care for their welfare.
CIIC is thankful for the leadership Minister Deenihan demonstrated as Ireland’s first Minister for Diaspora Affairs. It is our expectation that the new government will continue to prioritize diaspora affairs within their agenda, expanding on the great work of Minister Deenihan, namely connecting groups that serve Irish people around the globe, recognizing the importance of these organizations and solidifying the link between Ireland and Her people abroad. CIIC and its membership thank Minister Deenihan for his 30 years of public service to the Irish people, and we wish him all the best in the future.
ABOUT THE COALITION OF IRISH IMMIGRATION CENTERS
The Coalition of Irish Immigration Centers (CIIC) was established in 1996 to promote the welfare of Irish immigrants in the US at a national level. The CIIC is funded by a generous grant from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Emigrant Support Programme.
The Coalition serves as a national umbrella organization representing Irish immigration and community centers throughout the United States that are committed to providing support to Irish immigrants. The Coalition strives to be a strong, cohesive and representative voice for the needs of its member centers, and in turn the greater community of Irish immigrants in the US. The Coalition prioritizes the sharing of information and the creation of best practices as a way to support and assist its member centers in their direct service work. CIIC member organizations are located in California, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Philadelphia and Washington
