May 15, 2013-New York, NY–The Coalition of Irish Immigration Centers (CIIC) is pleased to welcome the 2013 summer J1s to the United States for an exciting experience that allows for independence, travel and a significant cultural exchange.

In anticipation of the student arrival, the CIIC J1 Subcommittee created a 2013 Safety Guidelines for Summer J1s Document. The document should be reviewed by students as a tool to help them in preparing for their trip, as well as a resource during their stay in the US.

It is important for J1ers to be in contact with their VISA sponsors (CIEE, InterExchange or Intrax) while they are in the US, and they should be aware that local Irish center staff are available to support them as needed. A list of local Irish centers can be found on the CIIC website at the following link: http://ciic-usa.org/find-your-local-irish-center/.

“The J1 experience is exciting and fun,” stated Paul Finnegan, CIIC Board Member and J1 Subcommittee Chair. “That being said, it is important that students be prepared and aware of the responsibilities they have as J1 holders. We outline some of those responsibilities in the Safety Guidelines document.”The 2013 Safety Guidelines for Summer J1s can be found here, and distribution is encouraged. The document can also be found on the CIIC website at the following link:http://ciic-usa.org/pdf/CIIC-J1-Safety-Guidelines-2013.pdf.
